RHOMBVS의 음악은 사람을 당혹스럽게 만든다. 잔뜩 찌그러뜨린 소리 사이를 기어이 비집고 등장하는 것은, 노래라기보다 어떤 ‘소리’에 가깝다. 해체되는 발음들과 소리들은 서로를 불러들이고 뭉치다, 곧 다시 쫓아내고 제각기 흩어져버린다. 따로 또 같이, 그들이 관계를 맺고, 운용하는 방식을 따라가다 보면 어느새 음악은 그 자리에 없다. 사람도 없다. 남는 것은, 발성기관과 마른 질감의 호흡뿐이다.

RHOMBVS의 첫 EP 앨범을 열면 처음 등장하는 타이틀곡 “Fragility Test”는 ‘파괴한도 시험’ 또는 ‘취약성 시험’이라는 의미로, 이 곡에서는 이제 막 시작되려는 관계에서 작용하는 묘한 역학 관계를 상징하고 있다. 앨범을 대표하는 제목 역시 동일하다는 점에서, 그가 이 앨범에서 집중하고자 한 것이 ‘관계의 역학과 실험’임을 어렵지 않게 짐작할 수 있을 것이다.

관계. 모든 것의 시작. 역으로 모든 것의 시작도, 관계일지 모른다. 관계의 시작이라는 대사건. 그것은 매우 사소하지만 결코 가볍지 못하다. 어디서부터인가. 누가, 얼마나 버티는가. 당신은 달아날 것인가, 뛰어들 것인가. 사건은 이미 발생했다.

02. Puzzle: Anatomy

누군가, 또는 무언가에 깊이 매료되고 나면 그것이 하나의 세계가 되는 동시에 조각조각, 너무도 선명한 분절이 일어나곤 한다. 눈에 선하도록 생생한 그와 그것의 부분, 부분, 그리고 부분들. 어지럽다.

03. KING

나는 KING이다. 하지만 아무 것도 지킬 수 없다. 비록 많은 것들이 무너지고, 내 모습은 초라하지만, 여전히, 내 이름은 KING이다.

동명의 소설, <King>(John Berger)으로부터 왔다. 다리 밑의 소란함을 만들어보고 싶었다.

04. Song of Babel

바벨탑은 무너졌다. 아득한 높이에서의 추락. 그리고 그곳으로부터 언어들이 갈려나왔고, 혼잡과 혼란이 시작되었다.

05. Unbearable Heat

뜨거워서 다 녹아내릴 것 같다. 누가 처음을 찾아낼 수 있을까.
